Plan a first market test.

A launch does not need to begin with a lease, truck wrap, or job resignation. Start with a test plan that has a budget, a clear idea of what you need to learn, and a date to decide.

Days 1–30

Define the bet.

List your personal income need, available capital, and time. Compare two or three services. Speak with operators, prospective customers, and local suppliers. Check licensing and insurance requirements. Draft a simple job-level budget.

Leave this phase with:

A shortlist of services, a spending limit, and a list of assumptions to check.

Days 31–60

Test the market.

Choose one or two service ideas for a small test. Build an offer in plain language. Estimate the cost to acquire a customer and deliver a job. Test a real channel, such as direct outreach or a limited ad budget, where you can fulfill demand responsibly.

Leave this phase with:

Customer conversations, early prices, channel results, and what a first job would require.

Days 61–90

Make a decision.

Compare what happened with your assumptions. Look at gross margin, cash timing, quality, customer response, and your own appetite for the work. Decide to launch, run another focused test, change verticals, or stop.

Leave this phase with:

A decision about whether to keep going and a plan for the next 90 days.

Set stop rules before excitement takes over.

Money: Set a maximum test budget and a minimum household runway.

Demand: Decide how many serious customer conversations or paid jobs would count as evidence.

Delivery: Define the quality, staffing, and compliance requirements you must meet.

Life: Decide whether the owner's role fits the week you actually want to live.

This is a framework to adapt. The right test depends on the service and your market. A licensed or capital-heavy trade may require a very different path.
